Jakarta, November 2026 — Indonesia’s fisheries and aquaculture industry presents promising opportunities for international trade and investment, supported by the country’s production capacity and ongoing efforts to strengthen the value added of its marine and aquaculture commodities. Connecting these capabilities with global market demand is essential to expanding export opportunities and strengthening Indonesia’s position in the international seafood industry.
One area with significant potential is seaweed, particularly Gracilaria, which is increasingly receiving attention through initiatives to improve cultivation productivity and develop downstream processing. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), national seaweed production reached 9.8 million tonnes, making Indonesia the world’s second-largest seaweed producer. Gracilaria accounted for approximately 16.5% of production across 15 major producing provinces, with East Java contributing 31,947 tonnes. To further develop this potential, KKP and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia are supporting improvements in Gracilaria cultivation and downstream processing in Sidoarjo through initiatives that include pond rehabilitation, better access to quality seeds, improved production and post-harvest facilities, and the development of processing industries. These efforts could strengthen product quality and value added while creating new opportunities for Indonesian seaweed to reach international buyers and markets. As the industry continues to develop, connecting producers and businesses with global buyers, distributors, and potential partners becomes increasingly important. Indo Fisheries Expo & Forum provides a platform for these connections, bringing together domestic and international industry players to explore market opportunities, exchange industry insights, and develop business partnerships across the fisheries and aquaculture value chain.
To strengthen its engagement with the international seafood industry, the Indo Fisheries team will visit Busan International Seafood & Fisheries (BISFE) 2026, taking place on 4–6 November 2026 at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, Busan, South Korea. The visit will provide an opportunity to connect with seafood companies, buyers, distributors, industry associations, and other stakeholders, while gaining insights into emerging market trends and identifying potential areas for cooperation. These engagements will support Indo Fisheries’ efforts to build international relationships and broaden its network ahead of the 2027 edition.
Indo Fisheries 2027 Expo & Forum will take place on 21–23 July 2027 at Grand City Convex, Surabaya, Indonesia, incorporating with Indo Livestock, Indo Feed, Indo Dairy, and Indo Vet 2027 Expo & Forum. The exhibition is set to feature 300 exhibitors from 30 countries, including 10 international country pavilions, across 5,169 square metres of exhibition space, and is expected to welcome 15,000 professional visitors over three days.
By bringing the exhibition to Surabaya, Indo Fisheries aims to expand its reach among industry players in East Java and Eastern Indonesia. Its presence in Surabaya is expected to provide local businesses with closer access to international partners, opportunities to explore new markets, and collaboration across the fisheries and aquaculture sector. As the organiser, PT Napindo Media Ashatama (Napindo) aims to further develop Indo Fisheries as a platform for collaboration that drives industry advancement, expands business partnerships, and strengthens the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries and aquaculture industry.
