Md. Khorshed Alam Jewel: Bangladesh’s feed industry is on the brink of a major transformation, with both global companies and local integrators preparing for rapid expansion through innovation and advanced nutrition technologies. In an exclusive conversation with AgriNews24.com, Dr. Abdallah Jankar, Vice President of Jefo Nutrition Inc., emphasized that Bangladesh holds “enormous untapped potential” to become one of South Asia’s fastest-growing feed markets.
Currently, Bangladesh produces around 5–6 million tonnes of feed annually, but Dr. Jankar believes the figure could reach 10 million tonnes within the next five years. “The feed sector in Bangladesh is developing quickly. Many factories are planning to double their capacity by 2027–2028,” he said. “This progress must be matched by innovation and improved feed efficiency to ensure long-term profitability and sustainability.”

At the center of this growth lies the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) — a vital measure of how efficiently feed is turned into animal protein. “Improving FCR isn’t just about feeding less; it’s about smarter, precision-based nutrition supported by good management and strong animal health,” Dr. Jankar explained. “Feed quality is the foundation of productivity, and by applying science-driven solutions, farmers can achieve higher yields with less input.”
Jefo Nutrition, a global pioneer in animal feed additives and precision nutrition, is introducing its signature Matrix Technology in Bangladesh — an advanced micro-encapsulation system that ensures nutrients are released slowly and efficiently inside the digestive tract. “This technology minimizes feed waste, enhances nutrient absorption, and boosts immunity,” said Dr. Jankar. “It benefits all production sectors — poultry, dairy, and aquaculture — but the real change begins within the feed industry itself.”

Highlighting current industry challenges such as feed ingredient quality, import dependency, and climate-related stress, Dr. Jankar stressed the need for practical innovation. “Our goal is not to rebuild farms but to add value through better feed,” he noted. “If we can make feed more efficient, reduce stress, and strengthen gut health, we can elevate the entire livestock value chain.”
Jefo is also investing in a factory capable of producing 100,000 tonnes of micro-encapsulated products to support Asian markets, including Bangladesh. “The feed sector is the backbone of animal production,” Dr. Jankar concluded. “By improving feed efficiency and FCR, we empower every farmer — from poultry to dairy to aquaculture — to grow sustainably and profitably. That’s how Bangladesh will move toward a stronger and more competitive future.”
