7th International Scientific Conference on Food Safety and Health Held in Dhaka

Staff Correspondent: The 7th International Scientific Conference on Food Safety and Health (ISCFSH), organized by the Bangladesh Society for Safe Food (BSSF), was held today (10 May) at the Auditorium of BARC, Farmgate, Dhaka. With the theme “Climate Resilient Food Security and Safety,” the day-long conference brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss critical challenges and advancements in the area of food safety amid climate change.

The inaugural session was held with Farida Akhter, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished figures who held key roles in the session included Prof. Dr. Md. Alimul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Sylhet Agricultural University; Mr. Zakaria, Chairman, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA); and Dr. Md. Abu Sufiun, Director General, Department of Livestock Services (DLS), all present as Special Guests.

Mr. Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), held the role of Guest of Honor and delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of industry collaboration in improving food safety.

The keynote address was held by Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director General of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), focusing on the challenges of maintaining food security in the face of climate change. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Sorwar Jahan, General Secretary, BSSF.

Throughout the day, parallel scientific sessions were held on key topics including safe food production and processing, food microbiology, nutrition, and public health. A dedicated poster session was also held, providing a platform for emerging researchers to present their work.

The closing session was held with Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf, Director General, Department of Fisheries (DOF), as Chief Guest and Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid, Director, SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dhaka, as Special Guest. Prof. Dr. KHM Nazmul Hussain Nazir, Founder Secretary, BSSF and Member Secretary of the Scientific and Publication Subcommittee, held an address reflecting on the conference outcomes. Dr. Sk Shaheenur Islam, Publication Secretary, BSSF, held the vote of thanks. The conference was presided over by Prof. Dr. Md. Khaled Hossain, President of BSSF.

The event, held successfully and with wide participation, underscored the need for resilient and collaborative approaches to ensure food safety and public health in the era of climate change.
